Chatting your way to greater productivity

This headline caught my eye, mainly because the article was focused on small-to-medium sized businesses that are using instant messaging to improve productivity.

Yes, you heard right. IM improves their productivity.

Runs counter to the popular notion that IM is a waste of time, and corporations should do their best to prevent their employees from using it, lest they fritter away the hours chatting with their friends and generally being unproductive.

Read the article, and see if you agree.

I agree

I definitely think that IM provides greater productivity while I am working. I don't have to call/email/walk over to a co-worker to ask them a question and can continue to work on other things while waiting for their reply. I actually just wrote a Brosix blog entry about this subject: Is IM a Distraction in the Workplace? | Enterprise Instant Messaging
