What exactly are you looking to do? Monitor IM conversations, set up IM for an internal environment like an office setting... what? The more specific information you give us, the more we'll be able to help you.

Sorry, I don't think it is legal (let alone ethical) for you to log private conversations other people have. Respect their privacy.

As for the file transfers, you need to make up your mind a bit more or explain better. You don't want to allow transfers at all, but you still want to scan all files sent and recieved? How is this possible if file transfers aren't allowed?

Also, try to explain what IM is used for in the business you work for, so we can get a better idea of what you're looking for.

I think its is perfectly legal to log all IM conversations in the company. Same idea as email. All corporations, log their emplyee's emails, as part of the organization's privacy as someone may leak confidential information for example. So, if i log messages, i just see the messages with keywords which represents risks to the company like price, stock, guarantee, and so on. I want to allow file transfers if they are not .exe files plus scan all the messages sent or received from the employee..does this make sense now?? IM in my company is used for businss as I believe that IM is as important as emails. You can know who is online and when and make sure the message was promotly recieved. What about IM Manager, have you heard about it before?

from some of the reviews i read, it sounds like IM Manager (from IMLogic) requires some pretty intensive setup and isnt the easiest to maintain, but works well otherwise.
