Some software companies in the education space are starting to integrate IM into their existing product offerings.

Blackboard, for example, has a number of IM "building blocks" that allow the integration of consumer or enterprise IM (Bantu) products into their platform. This allows students and professors to send real-time messages in the context of their classes.

A lot of colleges and university IT departments are starting to realize that they want to offer their own IM solution, in a way similar to offering e-mail for students and staff.

The lack of any true interoperability standards makes this a decision between proprietary technologies (at least for the moment.)

well in our skool. we cant get msn messenger or anyother type of instant messenger. even though the computers in our skool are old and outdated, no one can install anything. i can download the setup but i cant intall it coz they blocked installation of any program.

Yeah right...i use MSN messenger in my IT lesson when i am not suppossed to use it!!!

im not allowed 2 use it @ school or acces any kind of webmail cos its all blocked

i once managed 2 download yahoo mesenger but it wuddent connect cos the proxy servers

Is it possile to connect to hotmail thru outlook express that my network admin just happened to place on my desk top? Or is that proxy-ness blocked too if Hotmail.com is blocked?
