I got suspended for using netstat!

I got suspended for 1 day for pinging my own IP, getting no response, then using netstat to see the school computer's network status.

Overkill.

It's probably a result of your own stupidity. I'm guessing your in High School, and mostly all of them restrict access to such applications, whatever your intentions.

I'm wondering the same thing, because as far as I know, netstat just lists your connections and doesn't do anything to other computers.

My old school had a crappy way of blocking student access to the school's some 200 computers networked.

It was unbelievably easy to access and modify. All I had to do was type "My network places" in IE and do whatever I wanted from there.

So you’re saying your net froze, or died, you did a ping, turned up dead, so you used netstat for a rightful purpose, and got in **** for it? That’s ridicules if you ask me.

Does your school not make you sign an agreement, or post a list of do’s and don’ts for the students to obey by? If not, I’d argue the point, plus if you DID use netstat for the purpose, I’d be having a chat with the school’s administration on why they allow netstat to be available to students, then suspend them for doing it.
