I signed onto Yahoo today to a few offline messages, as I usually do. But, one caught my attention. It was a job offer, and I wanted to see what they said as I just recently watched a scam show on Oprah a few weeks ago. Anyone catch that episode?

Anyways, at the end of the conversation, the person went offline, no doubt blocked me. Check it out anyway:

CONCLUSION:I think its a SCAM!!!

I have no doubt it's a scam. I recently just watched an Oprah episode where they were talking about scams like these.

A lot of times, these scams are being run from Nigeria and include you giving them your bank information. You send them money, and they send what you gave, plus. It happens a lot with online dating services. Same with unclaimed money.

But this is the first I've heard of funds being received via currier by check. Usually, if it's a scam, the 'payments' come in via certified check or money order, under $5000. This way it never raises any eye brows. But, they look very legit and the banks even cash them on the spot. You take your share and Western Union the money to them. A few weeks later, the checks come back as fake and YOUR on the hook for the money! And not only money, but the FBI COULD bust you if it's an American ring.

I also find it interesting that this "Lina" said her "clients" are in the United States, yet she gave you a client number from the UK? +447024030327

And she can't receive INCOMING long distance calls?

In my case, if I wanted to attempt to see what this was about, I could provide all fake information, in the means of a name and phone number, and since I get my mail via General Delivery I don't even need a mailing address. Email addresses are a dime a dozen.

I'm seriously tempted to see how it works out, and forward any information to authority for tax evasion.

Common sense should prevail...

1. Why on EARTH would any LEGITIMATE company selling "textiles" need to have payments made out to YOU, for YOU to cash, take your cut and wire the remainder to THEM? There is no possible reason.

2. Why on EARTH would any LEGITIMATE company contact random people via Yahoo! Messenger to establish such an arrangement.

Common sense says it's a scam. Even if there were reasons for number 1 and 2, the only possible purpose they could have for such an arrangement would be money-laundering, which of course is also illegal.

Steer clear of anyone wanting to make such a "deal" via IM or email.
