Member of the Month - May 2008

It gives the staff and members great pleasure in announcing that patndoris
is member of the month for May!

How did you find out about BigBlueBall? What made you stay?

I had a contact on WLM who had nothing but problems with his instant messenger. So in typical woman fashion - I set out to solve the problems (regardless of whether he wanted my assistance or not) and I found BBB. I stayed because this is THE place to come for IM questions. As instant messaging and voice chat have continued to play a larger part of my online life, BBB has been a tremendous learning resource. And I've met some of my dearest online friends through BBB!

Why did you choose patndoris as your username?

It's the screen name I started wtih ages ago when I signed up for AOL. Pat is my ex and the Doris is me. In the beginning of time a melding of the two seemed sensible. Now, I just can't be bothered to change it - everyone knows me by it on most every site I'm on.

How many years have you been using computers? What do you with your computer?

I was raised around computers. As a kid I remember playing with old key punch cards like they were toys. But I didn't really turn into an emerging techno geek until a few years ago. Now I can't live without my computer. I spend most of my time on it, in one way or another - from working on my website to chatting with friends and everything in between.

How long have you been instant messaging?

Believe it or not, only about 3 years, maybe a bit longer.

What is your favorite instant messenger?

WLM is my preferred IM for one on one chatting. But when it comes to talking with a group, it's YM voice conference.

What is your favorite BigBlueBall forum?

Definitely the WLM forum - it's what I know the most about and where I feel I can do the most good.

What do you do when you're not online?

Ummm...NOT online? I'm always online! Oh, you mean when I'm not physically sitting in front of my laptop don't you? Well, my other true love is knitting. Though I usually do it while watching TV, so I can relax and still feel productive at the same time.

What are your favorite movie, book and song?

Book: Glue by Irvine Welsh (Bit of a difficult read for an American since it's all in regional Scottish vernacular - but well worth the struggle.)

Movie: American Beauty I'm planning on having a mid-life crisis one of these days and I'm using it as my roadmap.

Song: Brain Damage by Pink Floyd (from the "Dark Side of the Moon" album). "The lunatic is in my head....." Yup that's me!

Anything else you would like to add?

Asking me if there's anything else to add? You've never read my blog posts (a.k.a. short novels) have you? LOL. OK, am I allowed to make a shameless plug for my website? If you want more insight into my sometimes fascinatingly odd brain and my often twisted logic - take a peek at my blog. I'd like to think there's some interesting and helpful information buried on the other pages as well (you just have to look hard to find it sometimes.)

No....that's not all. I'd like to thank the academy (...ahem...Oops wrong speech...) I'd like to say THANK YOU to Jeff for making BBB possible, and to all the other staff members who welcomed me so warmly. And an even bigger THANK YOU to the members who have allowed me to help them, and no matter how many things we had to try, and how many things didn't work, still had the patience to persevere through with me. It's an honor to be a part of BBB, and an even bigger one to be MotM.

Thank you Doris for a great interview, and I am sure the other members won't mind me saying you really deserve this nomination.

Your t-shirt is on it's way! Congratulations

Congratulations, Doris!! Brilliant interview there, and yes, I will vouch for it, her blog contains some great mini novels. Doris, if you ever need a business partner, you can call me anytime. We'll publish your blogs and earn big big money, lol.

As an aside, any idea when the BBB MotM Hall of Fame will be coming up?

Thank you Philip! Partners eh? Could be something to that! My goals are simple - make enough money so I can stay home on my computer all day. OK, OK - I'll settle for starting with enough to cover my hosting costs and buying a few Happy Meals at McDonald's. I'll revise next year's goals to be a bit more aggressive LOL. Ah well - it's good to have dreams to strive for huh?

Congrats! Well deserved, keep up the good work, and I was always curious of what your username was created on!

I told my psychiatrist that everyone hates me. He said I was being ridiculous - everyone hasn't met me yet.

*Grin* I figure I don't hate the ex or anything so why bother changing it after all this time. Besides - it keeps people guessing they wonder if I'm the Pat or the Doris part of it. And as a plus - I never have trouble getting a user name LOL.

Yes! Or I wondered if you had two kids - one named Pat and one named Doris.

Ahhhhh....Fame and Glory! As for what I'm doing with it? Well, I was going to buy a new Corvette, but I'm afraid the Hot Wheels version is all I can afford. So, I'm just going to enjoy the month until the title is passed to the next very deserving BBB member.
