Member of the Month - October 2008

I am pleased to announce that we voted for garydd as October's member of the month.

He has been a member for over a year, and has been very helpful in forum, especially in the Yahoo section.

I contacted him and here is his interview regarding his time at BigBlueBall .............

How did you find out about BigBlueBall? What made you stay?

I made an account a long time ago to find info and then didn't use that account or canceled that account, but then I learned more about Yahoo and had questions to ask, so I joined again.

Why did you choose garydd as your username?

It was easy to remember without being too personal.

How many years have you been using computers? What do you with your computer?

I have used a computer for about 10 years and went to school for it for a few years and then learned much more on my own, though I decided that I would rather have a different job and never chose that as a job since I know it is too stressful and makes you work over time.

I learned a lot more about computers and programs I never knew about just by spending hours on the computer. I never learned that in school, or maybe I didn't listen enough on some things, though I graduated. I learned to build a computer from college. I like to upgrade my computer when I can afford it and build it to increase its speed and keep it protected. Using multiple anti virus and anti spyware tools, but don't use them at the same time. I learned of one by a forum member of the programs "hijackthis" and maybe "sysclean" (anti virus protection). Also, I like to read on the internet about many topics and subjects like science, computers and programs, health, certain cultures, etc. I also use IM but not with too many people at the same time (I prefer 1 at a time and not be overwhelmed) Also watch shows and movies online, play PC games sometimes, etc.

How long have you been instant messaging?

Since 2004.

What is your favorite instant messenger?

Yahoo, if it has no slowdown. Depends. I like both MSN and Yahoo since they seem to have somewhat different features. MSN with its custom emoticons and Yahoo with its cuter emoticons and other features that you don't get with MSN unless you have MSN Messenger Plus, like offline alerts in Yahoo and appearing offline to a user without blocking. I like them both but in different ways.

What is your favorite BigBlueBall forum?

Yahoo Messenger Support. That is the section that I have in my favorites.

What do you do when you're not online?

I often leave my computer online, though I'm not always at the computer, but I shut it off to save power if I have no reason to keep it online or I switch the monitor off. I like to ride my bike and go to the gym and do cardio, weight lifting, etc. I also like to watch the science channel or other programs. I like anime too and other programs like Marvel comic heroes cartoons, like Superman, etc. When I can, I work side jobs to save up money and I have a side job I do once a week as well to pay for most of my food, then I can get a permanent job with benefits.

Q: What are your favorite movie, book and song?

I have no favorite, just ones I like (sci-fi, horror, comedy, etc).

Anything else you would like to add?

Though I am confident in some ways and sometimes over confident, I'm also humble and don't like to be in the spot light too much. I knew that I gave helpful advice, but wasn't really expecting to be member of the month and also didn't know that term existed. I wonder how member of the month is decided. A voting system? Thanks though for making me feel some importance. I didn't know I was valued like that.

Oh, I didn't know this thread existed, let alone "member of the month" threads until I explored more forum-wide today and saw the thread here by chance. Sorry for my absence in this thread. I feel embarressed not to have posted here weeks ago.
