Academy Awards: Best Picture Poll

Who will win the Oscar this year for the Best Picture?

Cast your vote, then come back Monday and tell us what you think of the real winner.

I've seen three of the five nominees. My girlfriend has seen four, and we're going to see the last one (Michael Clayton) either tonight or tomorrow. Frankly, I didn't like Atonement, I thought There Will Be Blood was overacted, and No Country For Old Men was a little too strange for my tastes. None of them were bad, but I didn't leave any of them thinking "wow, that one should win the Best Picture award."

But I think NCFOM will probably take the Oscar.

I saw all of them. Each movie had its merits. Atonement had a really technically advanced scene on the beach (long scene with no cuts). Juno was enjoyable and entertaining. NCFOM was intense and ugly. TWBB was ugly and intense. And Michael Clayton had a great plot.

Were any of them best picture caliber? Meh.

There was an interesting article on Grist that suggested "No Country For Old Men" was an analogy for global warming.

I had to look that one up. Here's the link: No country for young men | Gristmill: The environmental news blog | Grist

It's a stretch, but thought provoking. The way the article is written, it could apply to any number of issues.
