Media organization?

I'll admit, I'm quite OCD when it comes to my media organization and care. My DVDs are meticulously ordered and lined up - I have very specific rules for what DVD goes on what shelf and in what order. (CDs to a lesser degree - those are arranged merely alphabetically by artist and then chronologically by album.)

But the kicker is my movie database. No one else that I know has an actual database of their movie collection (written by me, in PHP using MySQL) that they rely on. Am I alone in this obsession, or...?

I'm curious what people use to organize their home media libraries, if there are any interesting ways of going about it.

I wish I had that luxury, I have a cupboard with all my dvd's in and now and then have a real tidy up, sadly quite often just after, my 10 year old goes in and wham all of them are on the floor....

My cd's are usually in order, but again the same thing can happen if my teen has a few mates over, all in a mess again and I have to spend an hour or so sorting them out. mmh it's great being a mum!

At the moment, I've got 135 titles. Not that many compared to some collections, but more than a lot of people I know.

You used PHP and MySql to organize 135 movies? I'm not sure what it's like to work with you, but you can organize my stuff any day!

Heh. My goal was to have the list all online and publicly accessible. A lot of times if we're going to be hanging out at someone's house, they'll say "do you have any movies you can bring?"

"Just check the list on my site." And that's that. (I also built in some fields to track what movies are loaned out.)

So I'm the only person who's this anal about my movies?
