MSN HTML Link

Is anyone aware of the HTML code to create a link to your user name - much the same way you use HTML to link your email address i.e. when you click the link it opens a messenger window with you name populated. I know the code for Yahoo and AOL but cannot find the MSN messenger code.

Thanks

Hi There,

I'm wondering the same thing.

It's so easy with yahoo and aol....why not msn?

I'm getting a few conflicting statements on the ability to do this lil msn trick with an "OSI". Every persons OSI icon I click on (for msn) just loads useless web pages.

Isnt there some way to code a link much like the aol and yahoo html hyperlinks that would pop up an msn im window for the clicker of said link with the clickee's ID already inserted (get real fancy and have a messages already inputed too.

Like these.........

<a href="aim:goim?screenname=jjuljjul&message=Insert+ message+here...Please+include+tickets+you+are+refe rring+to" border="0"><img src="http://files.triton.net/zian/keepers/imaol.gif" align=middle hspace=15 border="2">AOL IM</a>

or

<a href="ymsgr:sendIM?jjul_jjul&meInsert+message+here ...Please+include+item+you+are+referring+to">&l t;img src="http://files.triton.net/zian/keepers/imyahoo.gif" align=middle hspace=15 border="2">Yahoo IM</a>

Please Please Please.
Please help.

I know I'm not the only dweeb looking for this trick.

If it's not possible.......Why can't it be done?
But thats a whole nuther story.

Thanks.

zian, lets try this again. Follow these steps:

1. Log onto your MSN Messenger account.
2. If this icon is green click on it >
3. This will open a new webpage and attempt to send me an IM directly.
4. If you are not signed in you will only get the webpage showing my email address: http://arkansasmall.tcworks.net:8080...hifter@msn.com

It is impossible to send an IM directly if you are not logged on to MSN Messenger.

EDIT : If you attempt to IM someone when they are offline, you will still get an IM window, but once you type a message it will respond with "The following message could not be delivered to all recipients:"

To add the html code to your site use this code:
Code:
<!-- Begin Online Status Indicator code -->
<!-- http://www.onlinestatus.org/ -->
<A HREF="http://arkansasmall.tcworks.net:8080/message/msn/youremail@hotmail.com">
<IMG SRC="http://arkansasmall.tcworks.net:8080/msn/youremail@hotmail.com"
border="0" ALT="Online Status Indicator"></A>
<!-- End Online Status Indicator code -->URL]

"3. This will open a new webpage and ATTEMPT to send me an IM directly."

Yup...the link is green,
Yup it opens another web page when clicked.
Yup (maybe) it ATTEMPTS to send you an IM.....did you get them?
(a rhetorical question)

The page that pops up also has errors when loading and NO clickable links to msn users like the aol and yahoo pages-links.

EVERY OSI link of members in this forum seem to work with Yahoo and AOL after clicking the first link and then clicking the procedding link on next page, that btw is darn near the same html/link code I am useing for aol and yahoo (with one less click also).

I'm beggining to agree with freddie
"Sorry, I believe OSI SUCKS." (at least for msn) of this post
http://www.bigblueball.com/forums/to...=msn,html,code

I'm also started to agree with the many folks who have told myself and others that what I want to do is not doable with msn.

I should have listened.....Maybe.
Maybe SonorkGuy is on to something very intresting (end of same thread).

"4. If you are not signed in, or if the icon is red, you will only get the webpage showing my email address. It is impossible to send an IM directly if you are not using MSN Messenger, or if I (the user you are trying to IM) am offline."

On my end (yup the icon was still green) the only time I get to see anybody's msn ID-addy is when I click on the "official" big blue balls msn icon at the top of any of thier posts (the java script pop up dealy) NOT when I click on any OSI links in anybody's message or signiture (it shows no msn addy there)

Oh well I have nothing but time and oodles of wonderment.

OSI does not appear to be a perfect system, but I think its the only option out there. The online status symbol sometimes will not update or will take a bit of time before it does. It does sound like you got it to work, but since I recieved no IM's, I must have been offline at the time.

Perhaps the reason you are getting errors, is that your browser does not allow javascript? OSI does seem to use javascript to enable this feature. The page http://arkansasmall.tcworks.net:8080...hifter@msn.com has no errors when i load it.
