Messenger not getting connected using Socks5

Hi,
This is my first post.
Well my problem is that I am not able to connect using socks5 settings.
Ok. I will tell something about the setup we have. We are having LAN with server as WindowsNT 4.0 and 10 clients which are having Windows 95. We use dialup internet connection or somwtimes we use the lease line. To distribute the connection amoung the clients we are using Wingate 2.1 as a proxy server. In the settings of Wingate proxy server is running at port 1080.
The problem has not been there for last 8 months but it has started from the point we have installed new NT server.
Are there any special setting to be made for running it on socks5. Messenger is working on HTTP proxing. But it gets frequently disconnected and the speed at which the message goes is also slow.
If anyone could help me i will be really greatful to him/her.
Thax in advance.

i m not sure about this but since u mentioned us a dialup connection for internet and having 10 clients..... probably the internet speed is too low and that the internet conection is distributed between 10 clients.... maybe msn messenger is not getting enough internet connect speed to be able to stay connected.....

Hi,
though we are using dialup connection it is using ISDN line so spped is 64kbps. And the sites came in normal speed on client machines. As i have mentioned i had no problem from last 1 year, thisis happening from the time i have installed a new server.

rustedtight is an unknown quantity at this point
NT4 as I remember it is quite friendly n easy to manage. As it has worked for you in the past year, then its the changes with the new server that is causing the problem. When you indentify those sections of the new setup that are different to the old setup then the answer is in your hands.
You must understand that NT4 is/was a commercial oriented product and as such many of our members are not familiar with it, tho just a few may read this and reply.
The nature of a server is that its qiute a simple beast and as such, finding its differences from another should not be an insurmountable problem.
Meanwhile as a temporary measure you could investigate using another client such as Trillian which read the MSNMsgr system. there are others.

Anna will become famous soon enough (50)
Actually on Trillian you can have numerous people using one instance of the program.

You can set up different profiles so each individual will have they're own personal list (and lists will not combine). Any questions - please ask them in the Trillian forum.

Now kiddies back on topic. <img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>
