Interface with Application

I have a new task to do.. Write an application (using VBscript). This application should interface with MSN Messenger service and get login information for a specific list of users. So my application can display the list of users logged on. On clicking on user list, I should be able to launch MSN chat session with that user ?

Any protocols available ?

This is what I have to do. I have a screen where I define set of Users and their MSN sign in name.

On another ASP page,I will have to display users from the above list who are currently logged on to the MSN messenger. So as a User when I load my ASP page on the browser, I see list of Users logged on to MSN. By clicking ont he user name, I should be able to open up a chat window.

I have looked into MSN development tool and found a way to add the lists who are online and initiate a chat window.
the problem I face is, if a user on the list is not on my contact list in my MSN Messenger, the statos of that user will be returned as UNKNOWN (by MSN documentation) irrespective whether the user has signed on or not. So I am not able to differentiate between a user (not on my list) whether he is online or offline and a user who is offline.

Any light on this will be greatly appreciated.

Ofcourse, otherwise the application is searching thru the total current user database (if it existed), possibly a million users?
The quick n obvious fix is to put those users on your contact list.
How simple is that??<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
