Msn Messenger with Linksys Router! HELP!!! ARG!!

Hi,

I recently purchased the WRT51AB Linksys Router (Dual-Band Wireless A+B Broadband Router). Since then, I havn't been able to use file transfer or Voice under MSN Messenger.

I've searched and searched and looked everywhere to fix this. There is another thread on this forum that actually talks about this problem. BUT it couldn't solve my problem.

Can anyone help?

Here's more info on my setup:

- Linksys Router WRT51AB (with what I presume to be the latest firmware since there is none available for this model on the linksys.com website).
- Msn Messenger 5.x
- Msn Messenger options/connetion/I use a proxy - Type: HTTP Proxy., Server:192.168.1.1 (my router), Port 80
- Windows XP, SP1
- Win XP firewall set to OFF
- uPnP installed on Win XP (I installed it AFTER installing my router, when reading about this function in other threads)
- The following Ports are mapped to my local machine in my router:
6891 to 6901
1863, 80, 1503, 1863, 3389, 5060
(I came with these port numbers from various sources)
- I've tried DMZ set to ON and to OFF, doesn't work in both cases

Questions:
- where can I actually see uPnP in action? I don't even know if it works.
- where can I know if my router supports uPnP?

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,
I'm posting a followup to my own message because I have found solutions that might be helpful to others using LinkSyS Routers.

SEND/RECEIVE FILES:
After forwarding all the appropriate ports and making the proper modifications in the MSN Messenger Comm Options, make sure that the following feature in your Router is set to DISABLED: Block WAN Request
My files can now be transfered.

VOICE:
My Router does not support uPnP. They say they are working on a firmware that might support that in the future. But the future, I want it now.
To ennable VOICE in MSN MESSENGER, I tested DIRECT TALK 1.2 for MSN MESSENGER (http://www.easyfp.com/msn-messenger-directtalk). It now works!
The only drawback is that it wont work if my Firewall is On (in my case Zone Alarm), AND it costs 25$ to register it. :-(
But it works.

Good ulck to all LinkSys users.

Hi everyone, sorry for being a newb.

I am having the same problem but I'm no where as technically literate as you guys are.

I was wondering if you could provide me step-by-step instructions on how to do this?

Most particularily regarding which ports need to be mapped to where.

I'm now running whatever the new version (not beta) of MSN Messenger.

Thanks again,
Charles

P.S. I'd much appreciate it if you could email at the address above, I'll check back at this forum of course but just incase. Thanks!
