How to talk to aim contacts with msn 6

Hi. I am reading on microsoft's website that you can talk to aim clients if you have an aim account. However, i just downloaded MSN 6.0 and i don't see any of the options that enable me to do so! What happened, is this not possible anymore or am i missing something?

Thanks!

I don't think it was ever possible to talk to somone on AIM from your msn. Unless u have the program trilllian..were u have msn, yahoo, icq, and aim all in one.

Perhaps point us to the Microsoft page link where you saw this information? I have not seen this feature ever mentioned before regarding MSN 6.0, and it would be a very big deal if it offered this. I think you were perhaps confused? Post the link to the information, and perhaps we can help clear up the confusion.

Send a message via AIM to onebarg
MSN actually did have a feature that allowed this when it first came out, but AOL eventually blocked them and Microsoft eventually gave up circumventing the block.

Check this link out:

http://messenger.msn.com/support/faq.asp

If you read some of these Q/A's, it actually tells you how to enable AIM contacts. Anyone know what this faq is all about? Perhaps it's old stuff that needs to be taken down?

Well, Relleum, it looks like you've stumbled on some outdated info. That is strange that they have not updated that - that is a confusing bit of info to have in there FAQ. But I imagine its exactly as onebarg stated:

Yes onebarg is correct.

In the past with the very prehistoric versions of MSN, it was possible to contact AIM contacts through MSN. But since then AIM has disabled these Microsoft-based "crossovers" by blocking MSN-based connections.

Aww. Microsoft wanted to be AOL's friend. [:P]

Well. Don't assume that info was outdated... Just wait until Microsoft release its official MSN Messenger on the 17th (tomorrow), and it probably will be available by then.

Yeah. I remember being able to contact AOL IM/AIM users via MSN before Microsoft gave up trying to find a way around to keep AOL from blocking them.

I just read throughout the MSN site above, and I can see some people (myself included) here did not read carefully. It says if you have AIM as your default messaging client, you would be able to chat with people by using MSN Messenger separately. I am not sure if you would be able to see AIM users online while you are in your Outlook client.
