Ok, here is another option for you.
The other day the same thing happened to me...
What I did, and worked, was the opposite. I removed all the previous cam drivers that I had installed with the manufacturer's CD...looks like most of them have trouble with XP, and then, instead of reinstalling or updating ( I tried, as you did, and it didn't work), I just made windows find its own drivers, and it worked...,looks like xp has a great webcam recognition feature...so, just let windows XP do the work and see how it goes...that if you do have windows xp, wich, by the way, I don't know.
Anyway, as I said, try unintalling the old drivers, and then let the OS look for some suitable ones.
