    2 simple newbie questions

    Hello all,

I apologize if these questions have already been answered in the forum. I couldn't find them.

    1. What is the main difference between MSN Messenger and Windows Messenger?

    2. Will Windows Messenger work OK on my Windows 2000 OS if I am connecting to someone with Windows XP? (I've heard that Windows Messenger will only work with XP)

    Thanks,
    Diggs

For the answer to your first question: http://www.bigblueball.com/forums/to...dows,messenger

As for your second question: Windows Messenger will only run on Windows XP, it doesn't matter what messenger (MSN Messenger or a third-party messenger such as Trillian) the other party uses.

    Thank you, Frutzle!

I am interviewing for a company that uses Windows Messenger for language learning. They tell me that most of the work will be with Windows Messenger, which, as you've confirmed, is only available with Windows XP. Trouble is, I have Win2K. I thought there might be some way around this other than purchasing XP, but it's looking like I have to get XP if I want to get this job.

Is there any way of using Windows Messenger with Win2K?

    Thanks,
    Diggs

Yes, read Ladie_Vennom's previous post. I run Win2k at work with Windows Messenger 5, and it works fine.

    Shifter and Ladie_Vennom et.al,

    That's really good news, thanks.

Does that also include the audio and video/webcam functions? I need is Windows Messenger with audio and video on Win2K. Is this doable?

    Thanks,
    Diggs

I've never tried, but according to the Features you should be able to. What better way to find out than to try it.

    Thanks, shifter.

I have tried it. Neither audio nor webcam is working. Errrr. Not sure where to go from here. I've had the same problem with an MSN Messenger install, and have noticed similar problems on this board. Will keep trying.

    Thanks for your input.

Sorry, I was unaware of that. I've always been told that Windows Messenger was an XP-only thing... [v]
