Could you please tell what your problem is exactly? 'Abnormal cursor activity' can virtually mean anything. What exactly happens? Maybe you could also post a screenshot to make things more clearer?
Recently I have been having 'abnormal active cursor' activity, with any 6.1 build from 6.1.0202-6.1.0207 (latest)...The following was posted @another forum...EDIT*** The abnormal active cursor activity is when my cursor goes into the 'hour-glass GUI' state, when placed on the opened Messenger window...

'Yes, I am trying to determine what might be causing this 'un-normal cursor activity' on my Messenger window...When I go to Administrative Tools--->Services--->I have always disabled Messenger in here, (this of course does not releate to either Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger), but is an un-needed service that can be a annoyance...
As for my MSN Messenger settings, I always uncheck: 'Run Messenger when I log on to Windows' and check 'Allow automatic sign-in when connected to internet'...
I too have Norton SystemWorks & Personal Firewall, and can't see any un-normal activity relating to MSN Messenger, regarding a remote system trying to connect...
I have set the default WinXP Internet Connection Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing Feature to 'Manual' thinking somehow when this was set to 'Automatic' (which is was), maybe something here, was causing this un-normal active cursor activity...
Today, thus far opening up MSN Messenger window multiple times, and placing my cursor on parts of the window, have 'not' produced this issue, but this has happened before...Oh well, will keep a wary eye on it, for it is very annoying trying to figure out what the hell is causing this when it happens again...
P.S. Always have 'unchecked' Allow Microsoft to collect anonymous information...ect, ect., as part of their quality control program...Yea right, lol...
P.S.S. Also, I do have Windows Messenger disabled, for I do not use or have a need for this feature...I do not think that this could be the culprit, for they are unrelated..."
I have reviewed most of the board posts for MSN Messenger 6.x issues, and have done the 'regedit tweak' to try to refresh the software, have removed the app and then reinstalled it multiple times, but each time after chatting and opening up the MSN Messenger window, I will evenually get this 'abnormal active cursor' (where the cursor goes into its 'Hour-Glass' GUI state)*** activity, when my cursor is placed on parts of the opened window...
Just last night, I removed & reinstalled it again, and for the duration of the evening, there was no 'abnormal cursor activity', but this morning it started again...
Forgot to mention some more important info***
I am on MSN 9 Final Release Code Build Ver: 9.00.0011.1200 Dialup, with no proxy servers involved...I have chatted with MSN 9 Tech Support regarding this issue, and they have forwarded it to their Dev Team, for it is a new issue...they feel that it is the MSN Messenger 6.1 Software that is causing this issue, and (of course) pass the buck on them...But if memory serves correctly this issue regarding 'abnormal cursor activity' also occured while using MSN 8.5 too...this is on a laptop (without wireless software), and I also have the latest critical patches for WinXP SP1 (which also includes IE6 SP1)...

Well, I forgot to 'fully explain' in detail about 'this abnormal cursor activity' that I'm experiencing...lol, as it's early in the am, when I posted this...my apologies...
When IM to a colleague, when opening up the MSN Messenger window, placing my cursor on the window, will immediately cause it to go into it's 'active state'...ala the 'hour glass gui effect'...
It will remain in its 'active state' until I close the Messenger window, then (sometimes) in a later chat session, when I open the Messenger window to chat, placing my cursor on the open window, will not cause this 'abnormal active cursor state'...
I hope that I have been more clear, and thank you for your reply...
Regards...
Well, I have just completed a 'testing process' where I setup a manual connection using the MSN servers, but only using IE6 SP1, and not my Final Release Code Build of MSN 9 Ver: 9.00.0011.1200 (Beta 6), and after 3 days of running my system with setup configuration:
Absolutely no 'abnormal cursor activity' when it is placed on the Messenger window, and all my email audio alerts are functioning properly...
So there is still a issue with MSN 9 dial-up software and MSN Messenger builds 6.x...I then chatted with MSN 9 Beta Tech Support (again), and they did report that there have been some reports of beta testers having the 'email audio alert' issues...
This report will be (once again-lol) forwarded to the MSN 9 Dev, Team for further testing...
Oh well, part of the hassel with using beta software...
I wanted to follow up on this issue one last time, and according to MSN Explorer 9 beta Tech Support this is a 'universal issue', and until the Dev Team finds out a solution for this annoying issue with MSN Explorer 9 (Final Build Code Ver: 9.00.0011.1200) and MSN Messenger 6.1 (currently using latest 6.1.207).
Why the Dev Team of MSN software can not find a quick solution and issue a patch is beyond my comprehension, for it has been going for 2 months...So I have about 3 weeks left for my 'Free' MSN 9 beta period to expire (I am a '$$$' paying MSN 8.5 customer, and if this solution is not rectified soon, I will seek another ISP...Very disappointing, as the MSN 9 Beta Tech Supoort Team now has one person left to answer questions and I had to pry all this info from him...
