WIN 95,98,ME CAN be upgraded from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...2-DE3BB768148F Windows Installer 2.0 Redistributable for Windows 95, 98, and Me about 2MB OR TO CORRECT WINDOWS INSTALLER DO THIS: WIN 2000 OR XP click Start, Run, and then "copy" and "paste" the following command into the box: %systemroot%\system32\dllcache\msiexec.exe /regserver (DON'T FORGET THE "SPACE" BETWEEN msiexec.exe and /regserver WIN 98 OR ME click Start, Run, and then "copy" and "paste" the following command into the box: C:\Windows\System\msiexec.exe /regserver (don't forget the "space" between msiexec.exe and /regserver) (You will need to change the C:\ to whichever drive Windows is on) ------ contact signs online and u can see that but then when I look the contact is shown as offline.(THE COLOUR OF CONTACT) this problem is usually to do wif ppl wif a TNT or nvidia graphics card. if u have one of these and u have this problem then do this: download these drivers: http://www.nvidia.com/object/pc_winxp-2k_45.33.html ------ if u have problems logging into MSN MESSENGER or WINDOWS MESSENGER try disabling ur firewall then logging into msn messenger then enabling it again. -------- Here are sum tips to try if ur having trouble signing into MSN OR WINDOWS MESSENGER: FIXES VERY FIRST ONE Click Start, then Run, and enter the following: regsvr32 softpub.dll then click OK (DONT FORGET THE "SPACE BETWEEN regsvr32 and softpub.dll) 1. The date on your computer needs to be set properly -- double click the clock verify that the time and date are set. 2. If your password information is not saved, verify that you are typing it in with the correct case (uppercase or lowercase). 3. Change your password @ http://memberservicesnet.passport.com/memberservice.srf to something smaller (under 10-12 characters), then try signing in again. 4. If you use a firewall (like ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security etc. ), it's possible that Messenger doesn't have the correct rights to access the Internet, especially since you upgraded. You may need to re/add Messenger to the allowed list of programs in your firewall if this is the case. 5. If you disabled your firewall in the past, it still may be blocking Messenger -- try restarting it and see if that helps the situation. You also might try uninstalling an installed firewall, to verify that it isn't causing a problem (even if it is disabled). 6. Clear your IE cache and cookies -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then Internet Options, then click the Delete Files button, and when that's complete click the Delete Cookies button. 7. Check your IE Security settings -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then Internet Options, then Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section, and verify that "Check for server certificate revocation" is unchecked. Also verify that 'Use SSL 2.0' and Use SSL 3.0' is checked, then click OK. ------- ALSO go to messenger.msn.com/help and scroll down the page until u see a button called "PUBLIC MSN MESSENGER NEWSGROUP". click on that button then once the page loads click on msn.messenger and u can POST ur questions to a Msn technician LIVE and get an answer within 5 minutes. MAKE SURE U KEEP UP TO DATE WITH THE NEWEST VERSION OF MSN MESSENGER. IF IT ASKS U TO UPGRADE THEN DO IT! Also keep ur PC up to date with the latest security updates from windowsupdate.microsoft.com (u only need to D/L the "CRITICAL" updates) |

How about this?....get rid of messenger (msmsgs.exe version 4.7.2009) forever..why does it need to have access to the internet before you ask it to? I finally had to block it in zonealarm firewall....daily I was getting thousands of attempted outgoing blocks. Like hell to get off. Finally I
did it in run. Close down all applications running. In run, type: RunDll32<space>advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection& lt;space>%windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove This is if you want it gone forever because you are not using it and it is demanding continual access to the internet, even when you dont feel like using it. I found this way easier then in regedit as I wasn't able to get rid of it there. |

Should I remove Windows Messenger?

Luckily there is an alternative. Instead of uninstalling Windows Messenger, you should hide it. The only way I know of so far would be to use an application and thanks to CookieRevised (a m8 of mine), I now know of the program. Read More...
