wtf? no rename in contact list?!

ive usually been an IRC guy but more and more ppl start using these chat progs nowadays and trying one seemed like a good idea.

i downloaded MSN and already have quite a few added and now the names are driving me crazy. i cant change the names on my contact list and i think its most ridiculous thing ever seen in a chat program where names is all you have.

i have friends at work which i would remember as peter, christian and lise. i have friends in quake clan i would know as enforcer, decenman and itchiban. i have friends in utopia i would know as dark sakura, dark aiur and dark whatever. i have friends at home who would be known to me as mom, dad, doubleM, louie, pres, p, etc etc... i think you get the picture.

Now instead all these ppl are named as risle@hotmail.com, whatever0191@hotmail.com, jørn, bente, “insert random name”.

Why would my mom call who self mom in MSN? of course she dont want to be mom of the whole world but i would certainly like her to be named as mom on my contact list....

if this is not possible for me to change my names to stuff related to me, i wont be able to remember half of my contacts when i reach 100 or just 20 for that matter.... a solution would be to put EVERYONE in their own group so I can give the group a name which describe the person for me as the nick/name I know

Hello festher and welcome to BBB.

The fact is...you can custome names in MSN in several ways:

1. Use and add-on. I use Messenger Plus! and Custome my contact names the way I want.
2. Use Trillian as your IM Client and put together every contact from AIM, Yahoo MSN and ICQ in just one list and with the name you fell like...
3. If you feel you must stick to MSNMessenger as your client, and you don´t want any add-on..then you can create a group for every single contact, as you said, but..why would you do that if you can do it in a more simple way?
