urgent help needed - messenger 5

I'm desperate to be using Messenger at work but I have
this really frustrating problem and I have no clue what I
can do to try and fix it.

I just installed MSN Messenger 5 for Windows NT4.

I need to change the connection settings since I'm using a
proxy server, but here's my problem -

I can't change any settings because when I click OK I get
this message:

"The number in the 'Minutes' box must be 1 or greater. To
turn off the activity detector, please clear the check
box."

I believe this is referring to the "Show me as inactive
when I'm away for XX minutes" under the My Status part of
the Personal tab. But the My Status part, and both the
check box and the minutes box are greyed out so I can't
change them!

I think they're greyed out because I'm not signed in as a
user.. but I can't sign in as a user until I get to
change the connection settings!!

... Anyone who can help will be much loved and admired

ok I have checked on messenger and you CAN change this when you arent signed in.
Could this be something to do with your works server as a block so ppl dont use IMs to chat with friends? I know in my work these kinda programs are blocked. Would you not be able to try a newer version of MSNMSGR?

Hi, you need to have a screen saver activated in windows for the away time to be activated.

After you activate the screensaver, re-boot and then go into messenger.

You should find that the Show me as "away" when inactive feature is now active.
