How do you change the MSN Messenger language?

I came back from a trip today to find that my MSN messenger program had been changed to portuguese. I have no idea how this happened. I was wondering how can I change the messenger language back to English? Someone please help!!

Have you tried reinstalling it, or possibly just reparing it? [start>control panel>add/remove>MSN Messenger>change/remove] First try reparing it. If it doesn't change, uninstall it, and download a fresh copy from http://messenger.msn.com

You'll probably need to reinstall the English language version, like detn8r suggested. They have separate downloads for each language.

Someone must have been screwing with your computer while you were gone. I'd search to make sure nothing else has been messed with.

actually you need to change your home country in your passport account preferences. that drives everything that is presented in your messenger client from the tabs you see to the languages and overall functionality available.

the client itself is the same regardless of where in the world it is downloaded from. i've tried many.
try: www.passport.com >>Member Services >>Edit My .Net Passport Profile

It may drive your tabs, but nothing else. I just tried mine with China, and I don't see anything different.

I just downloaded the Russian version from http://messenger.msn.com/Locale.aspx (where you can get anyother language they provide) and the whole client is in Russian.
So you have to download the version not change your country in your .NET passport account.

Just make sure you have the national language installed on your computer.

that's odd. i've used the passport preferences to switch between the german and english versions. maybe it changed with the lastest upgrade. but you are right, it seems to only drive the features of the client, not the language.
