cannot install messenger 6.2

Here is my problem. I have installed windows XP and there is a default MSN messenger that I can't uninstall. Well, if I can, I don't know how. I was running MSN messenger 6.1 fine when I decided to uninstall 6.1 to install 6.2. Now when I start 6.2 there is an error message telling me the following "This application has failed to start because the applicaton configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem". I tried that with no success. So is the problem with the MSN messenger that comes default with XP. Does it not matter at all. How can I fix this problem .

HELP!!!

I think you should've tried searching for existing topics first because there is about 5 topics about this.

Heres the one I created, with a Solution

Basically, the solution is to install 6.2, then open the file you downloaded and select repair. That should fix the problem.

If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it.

After installing, run the setup program again from here:

http://messenger.msn.com/Download

and when prompted, choose the 'Repair' option -- then after this, try running Messenger again.

Lance 4K, you've just said exactly the same thing as me. I posted the solution at least 5 days before you. Try reading the rest of the topic before posting.
