From voice chat problems to even bigger problems

As many others, I haven't been able to use the voice chat function for MSN Messenger, ever since I download version 6.2 (or ever since 6.1, can't remember).

I've been browsing the forums looking for solutions, and I've tried everything I could find on here, but nothing has worked.

So last night I gave up, and just re-installed the latest 6.2 version. The problem NOW, is that it won't even start. I get an error message when trying to start the program, that it can't be started due to some problems with the "activating context", or something to that effect. (I'm in Sweden, so the error message is in swedish. I just translated it now, in hopes that someone will understand what the problem is).

I had to install Windows Messenger 4.7, which I can use, but I'd be happier if I could go back to using the real MSN Messenger again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm dealing with the same problem as you except from the last part of the ''activating context error''. As instructed I obtained the good version of the rtcdll.dll file which was supposed to be faulty but the problem persists.I'm running under win98 msn6.1 and messenger plus3.
The problem could be desrcibed as: When you try to add audio in a conversation the connecting period takes forever and eventually ends with the error message ''the computer or network you're trying to connect with is facing a problem, please try again later'' or something similar to that. But catch this: after I replaced the faulty rtcdll.dll file with the good version (4.0) I tried to add audio again. As I expected it failed (i restarted my computer just in case) but the other user with whom I was trying to connect with told me that in his MSN window the connection was done within 4 seconds and when I would talk he could hear me even though on my MSN window I was still being connected. I wouldnt complain about it but thing is that I cant hear the other person and the ''connecting process'' in which I can be heard but not hear lasts less than 15 seconds.
If these were enough clues to someone please let me know.
By the way swede, audio chats work on MSN 4,7? I tried MSN 5 but failed.

I think I solved the problem now, after re-installing and rebooting etc etc, but the audio conversations still won't work.

Anyway, my NEW problem is that after I got MSN 6.2 back working again, it's running VERRRRRY slowly.
Sometimes my messages don't reach the other person, even though we're both on high speed internet connections, and when I tried a webcam chat, I could clearly see that there was a major delay from when the person typed, until it showed up on my screen.

And when I change to 'show as offline', it takes a good 15-20 seconds before the icon in the taskbar goes red.

Does anyone have any idea why it's become THIS much slower? Does it have to do with a setting, or should I just live with it?

So NOW I tried doing a Windows system restore, to set the data back to when it was working, but this won't work either.

I've tried 4 or 5 different dates to go back to, but each time I get an error message.

Why won't THIS work either?! argh.

There is an audio option in Windows Messenger 4.7, but I think it only works if the other person is using Windows Messenger as well, not MSN.

Okay, so now the 'running slowly-problem' has been resolved as well, BUT the audio problem is still very present.

I have version 6.2, and I AM able to connect to certain people for a voice chat, but it won't work at all with others, and I can't understand why?

The other persons all have version 6.2 as well, but the voice chat only works with some of them.

What needs to be done?! I've tried all the tips from the forum, but nothing seems to do the trick.
