Ver 6.2 multiple contact alert screens! Help!

Help please! I had Windows Messenger and started getting "messenger has encountered a problem" every time I treid to run it. The error report showed that rtcdll.dll was the culprit. The same error pops up if I try to run Outlook Express. It just started out of the blue. I changed my default email client to Outlook 2003, but then I started getting multiple copies of the same email over and over. I went back to Outlook Express and the error is now sporadic. I ran every antivirus program out there and several spyware programs. Nothing.

Anyway....I used Messenger a lot. I found instructions on disabling/removing it and did so. I went out and installed MSN Messenger 6.2 and when I launch it MULTIPLE screens pop up telling me my contacts are offline. These screens continue until my machine is hosed and I have to end task it.

I contacted MSN support and tried everything they suggested including:

1. running %temp% and deleting all files
2. deleting all instances of SetupD1.exe
3. From a command prompt typing set temp c:\ and then %temp%.
4. downloading a new copy of setupD1.exe from the MSN site and installing it in the command window.

No dice.....same issue.

Then.....I removed it ALL again. Installed version 6 and could not sign in due to the mandatory upgrade. I copied the version 6 rtcdll.dll to my desktop thinking it might be a different version. I then went ahead and answered yes to upgrade ver 6 when prompted. Checked the dll files and they were the same.

When 6.2 launched........MORE of those stupid contact screens popping up all over.

I am about to lose it.

Anyone have any ideas???? I would just go back to Windows Messenger, but I can't get an answer on the error I was having with it either.
