After several threads about MSN Messenger and its connectivity issues, I have created this thread with all known solutions. Please DO NOT reply to this thread stating that none of these solutions have been successful for you, nor if they were. We know that they are because several members concluded that they have been successful. Please only post in this thread if you have any solutions to contribute that has not already been covered below. Thank you, and good luck with solving the issues. For your reference, please view the

Problems accessing Hotmail.com:
Double check which encryption bit you have for Internet Explorer. Sites like Hotmail require a 128bit encryption. If you have anything less, visit
www.microsoft.com and download the newest encryption package for your version of Internet Explorer.
In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options > Security Tab > Set the Internet security level to low > Advanced Options Tab > Check "use SSL 2.0" and "use SSL 3.0". (These are other tools of security that Hotmail.com needs. Also uncheck “Check for server certificate revocation”. Now clear cookies, temporary Internet files, and history.
Now again go to Start > Run and type in the following DLL’s to reinstall them:
REGSVR32 SOFTPUB.DLL
INITPKI.DLL
MSSIP32.DLL
Install[reinstall]ZoneAlarm Firewall Security.
Install[remove][reinstall]Norton AntiVirus
Make sure that you have the current Direct X downloaded as this can be the problem to the MSN messenger error. You can obtain it from
here.
If you are running Windows 2000 make certain all the latest updates are installed as well as the latest Direct X. Windows 2000 does not support Universal Plug & Play but Direct X will help as it contains some UPNP code.
Ensure that the people you are connecting to have done the same steps where applicable. Then you can re-test the MSN Messenger functionality.
If you are running Windows XP make certain that you have QoS disabled. This is known to cause problems with Messenger's audio and may cause other problems.
Turning off the QoS Packet Scheduler:
To do this:
In Windows, click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Click Network and Internet Connection, and then click Network Connections.
Right click the network or Internet connections that are currently enabled, and then click Properties.
Clear the QoS Packet Scheduler check box.
Restart your computer.
Sign in to MSN Messenger and try again.
