Thats generally what they do when they make a new version.. Take the old one and change it, add features, ect. Its not fake, I don't even see how you can claim it is.

Now when I try to run windows messenger, it won't launch. Worked fine with 6.2. Anyone know of a fix?

Oh ok detn8r. I think I might give it a shot then. My curiosity is getting to me now. What is msi by the way? I'm not too computer savy. No way to turn that into an exe I suppose. I don't want to download something that'll take me an hour (dialup) only to not have it able to open.

.msi is just a Windows Installer Package, it works just like an exe. And unless your running Mac or Unix, it will open fine.

-Hit start -> run -> regedit

-Look for the section HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ MSNMessenger \ PerPassportSettings

-Open all the sections consisting out of a number combination.

-Select the DWORD DisableTabs (if not present, create it)

-Change its value to 1

-Repeat this step at all number combinations

-Close and restart MSN Messenger

Update from Neowin:

Quote:
quote:As MSN Messenger 7 goes into private beta, Neowin has learned of several exploits resulting in the "winks" feature of MSN Messenger 7. A Neowin member wishing to remain anonymous has alerted us that users can generate their own flash movies and send them across MSN Messenger. As flash movies can open other things on the system such as Internet Explorer, this could be fatal. As MSN Messenger 7 is only beta and isn't available publically this isn't a major exploit but it does show that added features to a product like this makes it less secure and more open to attack/exploit.

MSN Messenger 7 is beta and is available in copies floating around the internet. We strongly advise members not to use the current beta until this flaw has been resolved. MSN Messenger 7 effectively opens your system up to allow a hacker to run numerous tasks on your machine.

We ask members not to post any exploit code or how to exploit MSN Messenger 7, thank you.

Oddly it's doing the same thing to me as well. It's not a global thing as others seemed to have been able t update their flash accordingly... but others like you and I can't seem to be accepted.
