HELP!!!! selective msn!

hey all!
my messenger is very selective on its messages. some people I talk to can see my messages fine, and then two seconds later someone else can't see anything I say.
i have tried MSN 6.1, 6.2 n 7, and they all do it.
also, I have windows xp n I tried windows messenger, and that doesnt do it at all. so im concludin it must be a MSN messenger thing.
anyone else had this problem or know a solution? its really annoying me to tears!
cheers
dan

That's very strange that Windows Messenger works fine but MSN Messenger gives you trouble. Are you behind a firewall or proxy of some sort? Is there any consistency to the problem? Is it purely random, or can you reproduce the problem by following a series of steps?

No, only the Windows XP Internet Firewall. I connect through a home network, but it's always worked fine before.

It has no consistency at all, one minute it will be fine and then the next they can't receive your messages.
I'm lost

OK think I've discovered part of the problem.
Instead of going through the network, I connected directly to the Internet through my modem, and since then I haven't had the problem
Any thoughts on what in the network could be blocking the outgoing stuff?

When you say you're connecting through a network, does that mean you're using Internet Connection Sharing or do you have a broadband connection with a router?
