looked to see what sound card I had it says no device id but I get sound on everything bar messengers.

really sounds like you have a build in sound chip set then to me not a stand alone sound card. Unfortunately unless you canb find out the chipset involved I don't think any further help can be given. I know here in the UK you can get a sound card for Ģ15.00. Why not invest a few and get a card installed.
