Morpheus vs. KaZaA

A few weeks ago, Morpheus got uncermoniously kicked off the network used by KaZaA, and all of us who had been using Morpheus were left in the dark. They've since come back with a new peer-to-peer technology based on Gnutella (I think). I've tried both the new version of Morpheus and KaZaA, [s]and personally prefer KaZaA[/s]. UPDATE: KaZaA has some fine print in their license agreement (the thing nobody reads when you install) that has allowed them to quietly install peer-to-peer network software from Brilliant. This will allow Brilliant to use your computer and disk space (ostensibly when it's idle), creating a network of processing power that then can then resell to other companies to use. If you don't want to be part of this, you'll need to uninstall KaZaA and follow these instructions from neowin.net.

Maybe it's a matter of preferring what's comfortable. After all, KaZaA looks and behaves almost exactly like the old Morpheus did. But I also found the new Morpheus interface over simplistic, and the results seems weak.

Final analysis? [s]I'm using KaZaA for now. It imported all my Morpheus settings and works predictably.[/s] I'm still looking for a solution I'm happy with.

So what do you use for file sharing?

I was also using Morpheus. I had used KaZaA also, but they were Identical programs so it didn't matter. I now use KaZaA because it is still the same as it was, and does the job for all my P2P needs.

Yup, I also was a Morpheus user until they swapped to the Gnutella network, its just too slow now, the Gnutella network just cannot handle that many users.
Morpheus is now a shadow of its former self now.

I have been a user of Grokster for a while now, its another Kazaa client, it does all that Morpheus did before and is the same familiar look n feel. I'll stick with it cos it does everything I want.

If I was not able or willing to remove the 'add on software' Then I would use Kazaalite.

I've heard mention of Kazaalite, but got the impression it is a Kazaa clone (not from the Kazaa folks). Anyone know where I can get it?

I use Kazaa, but that really pisses me off that they would put that Brilliant junk on your computer... while there is a little part in the license agreement. Who reads those anyways? I mean, at least it came out before they really did do something, or did they already do something to your computer?<img src=icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle>

Although I prefer Kazaa, I am starting to change my mind...

Spyware is on the increase, if you value your privacy theres no point in turning away from programs doing it, hell we are still using windoze media player right?
We need to stay alert n keep ourselves informed.

start by looking for and maybe using programs such as Ad-Aware, Spyblocker, Silence, Junkbuster.
Visit sites like http://www.cleanclients.tk/ if you want to download via P2P clients.
Keep informed cos the scene changes rapidly as new operators come n go or change their tactics of tracking you, pushing adds at you. There are forums just for these areas, find them, hang around them.

Lets not lose sight of the legality in a lot of the file transfers happening via these P2P apps. Do you seriously expect some commercial outfit to come along n offer a solution to further enable your illegal activities?

As I understand it.........
Kazaa obviously own the technology that Morpheus was running on.
Morpheus had some laxity in paying their bills, and the technology was temporarily withdrawn.

Sad day for Morpheus, cos now its of no interest to anybody.
Gnutella have only 'a snowflakes chance in hell' of handling the morpheus base of users.

RIP Morpheus.
