Kazaa Problems

Hi friends!

I tried to download a movie with Kazaa and when I already had 250MB Windows XP had some problems and crashed down and restarted my computer.

After windows restart, I tried to start kazaa and appeared this message:

"Kazaa Media Desktop has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. ... Send Error Report .. don't send".

So, I'm not able to open my kazaa or even the files I was downloading because it vanished from "my shared folders".

On my computer, all other users on their own user's account can run kazaa normally. (but not me)

Does anybody knows what can I do to solve my problem?

thanks,
Sofia.

Welcome MGFzinha, I have moved your topic because it was in the AOL Instant Messenger forum and should be in the Music Room forum since it relates to Kazaa. What internet connection do you have? What programs do you have open when you try to run Kazaa?

What is your experience level using Kazaa?
What version are you using?
is it spyware free?

Advise further details about 'all other users', how many are using the computer?
is the computer privately owned or part of a corporation network?
do you use a firewall?
anti virus software?
anti spyware apps?
How much fee space is available on the system for 'my shared folder'?
What is the computer build?

Having the same problem running Win XP Home, DSL Connect, piling 80 GB drive down to 20 GB now, 724? RIMM.
Linksys router, 2 computer network, both xP, Kazaa Version 2.02

Scenario
I was downloading 216 MB file over long period. Started seeing lagged downloads with time (idle as well). I cancelled a download prematurely (although I had been able to resume others?) Actually tried to Cancel Download from Exact user in tree (hierarchy). Error, not serious though. Failed downloads in Kazaa two days now. Reinstall with Lite?

Format hard disk? All are needed surely, but I would like to finish a collection before burning a DVD.

Any help is appreciated,

bruto

I'd suggest going to get a new software go download big files. I use WinMX and it runs fine..and it's better than Kazaa [imo] and u can get numorous results [sometimes up to 1,000 or more!]. U can see which ones are open for downloading too...plus it can be customized. But I'm not really sure for the solutions to yall's situations...sorry...I'm just saying probably switching something over from kazaa would be better. :-

"Reinstall with Lite?" Certainly but not before alll trace of Kazaa (except 'my kazaa' file) is removed and anti spyware software is installed and run.
The folder containing downloaded files (my Kazaa?) can be renamed, relocated before any attempt to delete Kazaa, this will safeguard those files.
WinMX does not have the user numbers that Kazaa (3 million plus at any one time) show,IMHO.

Update,

I figure that this might not be as serious as I thought. I was able to delete the mysterious download file (download.dat) from My Documents/My Music but not from the Shared Folder (All Users) still. I restored to a previous state of Win XP and relocated the Kazaa shared files directory and now my downloads work. I assume it was this file being present in the directory. Still I am having the problem of not being able to cut/copy/move any files from the All Users/Shared folder (that being Documents or Shared Docs for Win XP).

I am going to format the hard disk after the semester and I backup my material (80 GIG!), unless you all think this is more urgent. I have a partial firewall (Linksys Router BEFSR41 out of the box, no modifications.)

To take this a little further, could any one recommend a proper AND SAFE setup for sharing, taking advantage of the above configuration? Or point me to a proper thread? Again Network comprised of two XP machines (adding third shortly) and Linksys Router. I know this will inevitablu affect the ability to Remote Desktop (incoming) but that is another issue I have yet to resolve.

Danka, appreciate the feedback!

Is this possibly a share violation? maybe you the user do not have authority or are a member of a group without the permission to delete files from this folder.
Check and ensure you have admin rights. Using the Guest account is OK but remember you have restricted rights on the system.
