Windows Media Player not working...

Here's the problem: About three seconds after I start Windows Media Player I get "Windows Media PLayer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience". I haven't even listened or done anything. It just sort of starts...and decides to crash. When I put the Encore CD in and told it to play in Windows Media Player the first song started playing (three seconds or so) then the error message came. The odd thing is that the song kept playing until it was over, but no other songs were played...any ideas at what's going on? I'm pretty sure I'm using Windows Media Player 9 (haven't got 10 yet...).

Have you tried reinstalling?

Also, upgrading to WMP10 might be an idea, its no longer in Beta, you know.

Actually, that's very logical. If you play a media file from your harddisk, your media player has to read the file and translate it into audio. If you play something from CD, all your media player has to do is tell the CD-player in your computer to start playing a track and the device will do the rest all by itself.

So, if you media player crashes, it will not be able to read from your harddisk anymore and/or translate what it reads into audio, but it will not cancel a CD from playing since that technically doesn't require a media player.

Yeah I got Windows Media Player 10 and it worked. Then I tried going into Now Playing and it crashed. I tried it again, and it crashed again. Then when direct clicking the link from Jeff's DUI post it played the movie. Then went I pressed ctrl+b to go back to Eminem which I just paused it crashed. Now the problem is that whenever I start the Windows Media Player it crashes because it defaults to starting in the Now Playing section, where the error seems to come from...
