Spybot not scanning properly.

I run the program, it scans but it tells me afterwards NO threads were found. Ever since I updated to the newer version, nothing ever shows up. I am using Windows 98, though I do know this version works with 98.

Teatimer is running so I'm not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing?

Thanks in advance, hopefully someone can help me out.

Teatimer is a the "real time" protection Spybot offers. I personally don't like it and disable it. I find that Spybot rarely if ever finds anything on my laptop, tho it was very good on a desktop that hadn't been cleaned in a long time. I keep it around for the immunization. I figure it's really good at that, and an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

I have Vista and Ad-Aware which is my #2 choice has been acting up lately - crashes all the time. So I've been sticking with my #1 favorite SuperAntiSpyware and it's doing a fantastic job. The big downside of it is the lengh of time it takes for a complete scan - a lot longer than Spybot, and even longer than Ad-Aware.

However, if Spybot isn't finding anything, I'd give SuperAntiSpyware a go. It's a free program and it does find a ton of stuff for me. Let me know if you try it and if it finds anything. I'd still highly suggest using Spybot even if nothing more than for immunization.

I think a lot has to do with which sites you visit. I've found one program may work wonders for one person and they swear by it, but when you use it - it finds virtually nothing. That's another good reason to have 2 if not 3 separate programs just for this purpose.

So that is a bad thing...?

Spybot is (apparently) fully compatible with Win98. I'm not sure how one can even still find a computer that old that still runs, let alone deal with it. I don't even consider Win98 users anymore, 10 years is long enough to support something, especially since XP has been out for 6.5 of them.

I like ad-aware personally, but as Doris said, that's a personal taste thing. I can't say I even run that kind of software much.

I haven't used Spybot for a long time, but just downloaded and installed the 1.6 Beta. I couldn't believe it, the scanning is FAST, at least 5 times faster than that of 1.5; just remember to disable Teatimer (useless, in my opinion).

Also bear in mind that this is a Beta, so install with caution. From what I heard on their forums, version 2.0's GUI will be a completely new design.

I've been using Ad-Aware for a while with good results. I always felt Spybot was not quite as good when comparing the two side by side.

Ad-ware+Ms-errors

I use Ad-aware to clean spyware and after that i clean my registry with Ms-errors(hxxp://ms-errors.com) and it makes fantastic cleaning.
