Yes...thanks that does explain more. I am not as up on comps as I'd like to be, hence the firewall and antivirus programs, , but will have my husband and son bust out the crayons and draw me a picture later. Thanks again.

Snoopy,
Let me save the crayons.. in this.. Quote:
134. = an area within Australia (city?) 81= one of my ISP's block of allocated numbers. 148 = customer (me) working backwards...... 148=me, 81=some number my ISP holds, 134= a location within Australia, 203= Oceania (Australia, some controlled islands n a few other unimportant specks in the ocean. You can now see it IS my address, combined with the date n time I can be traced at any time now or in the past. Obviously an IP address (combined with date n time)is not just identifying 'snoopy is cool', but Mrs average mother o six, 3421 long drive. Small town. This State USA, customer of bloggs web n ISP business. 34 Main St. Metropolis. USA. So.... dont break the law while on the web, you can be found, something a lot of script kiddies seem to ignore. rustedtight Edited by - rustedtight on 05/11/2002 11:49:40 |

OK, dudes n dudettes, here's the deal... every hacker n his dog runs a bot that searches thru IP addy's n looks for open ports... cool... or not so cool depending on your lack of protection...
The deal here is to beat the hacker by running up to date anti virus software and a firewall such as ZoneAlarm which hides your ports from the web... deal? hacker screwed......... now... next question? I come from a land down under Where beer does flow and men chunder Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? You better run, you better take cover! |

Here let me take some worry out of exposing your IP address(es):
Here is a list of firewall manufactuers that have free copies of their products that you can use to detour someone (like myself) from entering your playground (aka computer or network). Tiny Personal Firewall : http://www.tinysoftware.com Zone Alarm: http://www.zonelabs.com Kerio Firewall: http://www.kerio.com Outpost Firewall by Agnitum : http://www.agnitum.com Zygate Firewall: http://www.zygate.com Once you download and install one of these products, please take the time to test them by going to one of these sites that specialize in firewall testing support: AuditMyPC: http://www.auditmypc.com SecureMe @ DSLReports.com : http://www.dslreports.com/secureme_go GRC (home of Shields Up): https://grc.com Hacker Wacker: http://hackerwhacker.com If and when your firewall pasts those tests, you can then breathe a sigh of relieve knowing that your computer is protected. I hope this information is benefical to someone out there BuShWiCk |
