Twitter account for sale on eBay with >1,000 followers

This one caught my eye. Andrew Baron of Rocketboom is selling his Twitter account and all of his followers in an auction on eBay. As of this writing, he has 1,523 followers, and whoever wins the bidding can change the name of the account and keep the followers. Great marketing concept, even though there's no guarantee that the followers would stick around after the transfer.

The auction ends on April 22, and it's already up over $1,000! It's an interesting concept, and I can imagine it's probably also been done for Facebook, Myspace and other social networks.

What do you think? Good? Bad? Or indifferent?

Quite a few of the bidders have zero feedback. ~1500 followers aren't worth $1000, not even $200.

He's also selling two-day spots on his account on Craigslist!

I think the eBay thing was cool...just for fun, you know?

But the Craiglist thing is ridiculous! (In my opinion).

Indifferent. This is similar to people selling World of Warcraft accounts, game gold, and Second Life businesses in that substantial amounts of real currency are traded for something intangible. My response is about the same as it was for those other cases: "I won't do it, but if someone else wants to spend their money on it then it must be worth it to them... kudos."

Perhaps you've not seen this similar story: Jason Calicanis is indirectly willing to pay for Twitter followers by giving away a Macbook Air if he reaches the #1 spot on Twitter
