GAIM disrupts my screensaver and films

Hi, I've got very annoying problem with GAIM.

After few minutes of watching the film in fullscreen, GAIM displays the stupid window with away message with I am back button and of course it brings down the film. When I get up to get the film back to full screen it thinks I am back so after five minutes it shows the stupid window again.

Similar problem is with screensaver, 1. I go AFK 2. Screen saver starts 3. GAIM displays the stupid window ending the screen saver 4. Screen saver ended and gaim thinks I am back 5. after few minutes GAIM displays the stupid window ending the screen saver and again and again.

Why is the stupid window there anyway? It is annoying on its own. Is there any way how to turn it off? This anti-feature is strong enough for me to stop using this app at all.

And one more point. I also hate it when I am playing the game, somebody IMs me and the game goes to hell as GAIM window is so damn agresive in getting focus that it brings it down. Sometimes it also happens that someone messages me and as I am typing some text at that momemt I send him some text I did not originally wanted as it is typed to message window instead of the original application.

what version of Gaim are you running? If you're not already using 2.0beta5 please obtain and install it. 2.0beta5 (released November 10, 2006) has new features, bug fixes, and, most importantly, no longer features a separate window for away messages.

Most Gaim versions allow users to (un)set Auto-Away options. If you're using Gaim 2.0beta5 "Auto-Away" can be (un)set in the "Status/Idle" tab of the "Preferences" (Tools>>Preferences) screen. Just uncheck the "Change status when idle" check box and Gaim will no longer automatically set your away message. Here is a screenshot of the Preferences screen (in Gaim 2.0beta5):


If you no longer wish to receive notifications you can disable the plugin (in Gaim 2.0beta5). Tools>>Plugins Uncheck the check box next to "Message Notification" and you will no longer receive notifications when your buddies message you.
