Image and Send Button
Here are my questions. Please help.
1. How do I send images using Pidgin? I cannot cut paste images in conversation window. 2. Where is the Send Button in Pidgin? Is there any plugin or something for it? I do not like to press enter all the time. Thanks J |

In my Pidgin, it does not work that way. It pops up a message "You dragged an image. Would you like to set it as the buddy icon for the user?" It does not send the image that way.
Also my image button in conversation window toolbar is disabled. What do I have to do to enable it? Thanks |

if you don't have the latest version PIdgin 2.02 please download and install it asap.
1) first go to the IM window and enable Direct Connect. Conversation >> More >> Direct Connect. Then "Conversation" >> "Insert Image..." This will bring up a file manager type window. from here find your image on your drive and click open. press enter and your image will be sent. Please notice that you can insert only images through this method. to send other types of files: Conversation >> Send File... 2) Unfortunately, for you, there is no Send button in the latest Pidgin release. I do not see how using the mouse to click on an image AFTER you have just finished using your keyboard to type a message is simpler than pressing the enter key. After you open a Conversation Window (double click on an AIM screenname) click on the "Conversation" menu. In this menu you'll find "More". After that you'll see "Direct IM". Once you click this option an AIM DC should initiate. You'll see the results in the conversation window. After the direct connect session has been initiated you will be able to send and receive images. To do so go to the "Conversation" menu again and click on "Insert Image..." and then browse through your file system until you find the image you wish to send. click on the image (it's filename) and then click on "Open". Now you should see your image in the box. Hit the Enter/Return key on your keyboard and the recipient can now enjoy the pretty image you have sent.
I took some screenshots to help you if you're confused. ![]()

Are you and your buddy connected to the AIM network (via Pidgin or otherwise)? As far as I know, the Direct IM feature only works when both parties are connected to the AIM network. Also over the weekend Pidgin has been updated (there is still no send button) to Pidgin 2.1.0.
Sean talks on Pidgin Planet about the way send works and its evolution thorough Gaim (Pidgin) history: Enter vs. Control-Enter. In one of the screenshots you can see what looks like a Send button (i can't be sure since i know no Korean) in previous versions. Maybe they'll bring it back sometime. Sean also mentions how you have to know what protocol your buddy is using before you send a file. Quote:
