Changing the postbit display

Legacy Postbit Lovers, Rejoice!

What on earth is a "postbit?" It's the way your avatar, username and other contact fields are displayed in the a topic. The old forums displayed this information in a column to the left of your post. The new forums display it above your post by default.

Several people were really, really unhappy with the postbit information displayed above the post. Personally, I'm not sure which I prefer, although I think the new default style looks better with longer posts.

At any rate, I took a few minutes this morning and added a new feature to the new forums, and now you can choose your own postbit style.

If you prefer the default style, with postbit information above the post. You don't need to do anything. But if you prefer the "legacy" style with the postbit information displayed in a column to the left of the post, you can now configure this through your User Control Panel.

To change your postbit display style, click Quick Links and then Edit Options. Scroll down to the thread display options and you'll see a new Postbit display option (see attached image). The Legacy option will move the postbit from the top to the left. Note that this only affects the way you view the forums, not anyone else.

To help explain this, I've attached images showing the default display, the legacy display, and the postbit option form in the User Control Panel.

I'd like to point out that the default style actually is more efficient in display than the legacy style, as you'll see in the attached examples.

Thanks Jeff, a handy little feature. I wasn't a fan of the new layout myself, so to have this is cool. Thanks.

? I much prefer, and have always used, Legacy. But a week or two ago I seem to have been switched back to default - AND I don't see the option to change it any more !?

Maybe this occurred about the time vBulletin 3.5 was installed, OR perhaps when I got this new PC recently.

I have NO "Postbit Display Option" any more - is/was that a patch that Jeff needs to reinstall into 3.5 ?

Or ... is it "just me" ?

It isn't, "just you". Jeff made the choice to remove the ability to use the legacy style postbit.

What it looks like makes no difference to me...I just like the information and it's easy enough to read either way...but nice to know that this happened.

Edit: After reading MGs post...I didn't notice the date on this one. Honestly, I don't notice a huge difference...it's easy enough to read this way...I never changed back to legacy last year anyway! LOL *Note to self...paying too much attention at work and not enough to BBB*

*Closes Eyes* Why is it so bright so early?

Well good thing I paid attention to the date of this topic. heh. Was getting confused for a bit. Eagle_Kiwi, I'm sure it will take some getting used to, but after a while this default appearance might not bother you so much. I used to use legacy for a bit, then switched to default and haven't gone back, but not that I can anymore anyway *heh*. I think I find this a bit easier to read, although other forums are set in the legacy appearance, but no big deal. At least to me.
