Removing Skype icon in tray

I would like to remove the Skype icon in my tray (right side - bottom of screen) by the clock, etc. I prefer to go to My Programs to start Skype when I want to use it instead of it being in the tray all the time. Hope someone can tell me what to do to get rid of it. Thanks.

I don't think that's possible. The system tray icon is an integral part of Skype, meaning they encourage you to leave it running in the background. If you don't like people calling you or messaging you, just set yourself to Invisible. Sorry, though, it's not possible to not use the tray icon.

Hello CountryGirl.
As Spyke says, you can't remove the taskbar icon when Skype is open - but if you go to Tools/Options/Advanced you can uncheck "Start Skype when I start Windows" then it will never be there until you positively choose to open Skype.
(Then when you finish Skype, instead of just "Close", right click that icon, and "Quit".)
I hope that may help.

Thanks so much Eagle....That's exactly what I wanted to do and now I have it fixed and I'm happy. I knew there was a way but I forgot how. Thanks again.

Thank you for your response, CG.
I'm glad you're happy now - almost all the various IM programs like to set themselves By Default to open when you boot up, but fortunately they all do offer options (somewhere!) to turn that off.
Yes indeed, YOU take control of your system, rather than letting "them" run roughshod over you!
