This new system scrambles the posts, and makes it very hard to look for ones you are only interested in posting in, and really I have missed several in MSN Messenger due to not noticing them.
Can't you just work around this by opening the forum on the main page? If you would like to see all new posts in the 'MSN Messenger' forum (for example), you could just click on that forum on the mainpage and the forum will show all new posts in bold.

Actually, if you close your browser by accident or even lose your internet connection, the forum should not have automatically marked all your posts as read anymore. Please verify this for me.

But are all the new posts shown at the top of the forum? Because if not, you would still have to sift through them all in order to find new posts.

They are at the top as far as I've noticed....also if you have not read the topic or have not read it since new information was added, the topic will be bolded.

Practically, yes. Theoretically, no, because 'Sticky' topics have prority over topics with new posts, but this does not change the overall picture, it only shifts the topics with new posts down a bit.

Since there have been no replies here since my last post, is it safe to assume that this issue is not an issue anymore?

I'd say it's still an issue, IMO. Active Topics was more logical, useful and quicker. Besides, the post icons on the main page are too small to see when something is new or not.

I think it's still an issue DJ. I've not said anything else because I think it would just be repeating what I have previously said. That might be the same for others too.

I agree with Dave.

I can verify that, I've closed my browser accidently and came back to new posts with all the same topics.

I think an "Active Topics" style would be nice but it's far from neccessary in my opinion. To me the only thing lacking from New Posts is that the posts aren't grouped together into seperate categories, but is it really that difficult to look in that last column to see where the post is? Not for me.

Sorry, I find your reply rather unfair. What exactly have we been doing in this thread? What exactly have we been talking about on IRC and what exactly have we talked about the numerous times you IM'd me with your concerns? Jeff and I have been listening Dave, just because we don't immediatly do what you say doesn't mean we aren't listening.

We have new icons for that, but we still need to implement them (you can't say we haven't been busy in the past days. ).

Point taken, but like I asked earlier... if you click one or more forums on the forum index, don't you get the same idea as 'Active topics', be it on several pages?

Or, when you say 'seperate categories', do you mean seperated per forum category, such as 'BigBlueBall', 'Instant Messasing', 'Off Topic', or do you mean seperated by forum, as in 'AIM', 'MSN', 'YIM', 'Random Ramblings'?

personally i'd like to see the new topics separated by forum (AIM, MSN, Random, etc)... yes it does display that information off to the side, but what we've been saying is that it would simply be much more convenient to just have them sorted according to forum. it makes it much easier to just skip to the forum section that most interests you, rather than read through what could potentially be several pages of topics from across the entire site.

As I was going down the stair, I met a man who wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today; I wish I wish he'd go away.
