That's strange, because I don't get any perceptible lag. You always just run it when you're asleep or away.

... Oh, what the hell. I thought you just ran it all the time and it detected when it was allowed to take over your CPU and when you were actually using your computer. Guess not, though. (Stupid thing... )

I do run it all the time, and it's supposed to (as I understand it) wait for idle processor time to kick into action. I suppose that as with anything, your mileage may vary. But I have it configured to run at startup and haven't had a problem running Photoshop, Visual Studio, Firefox, etc. with the folding client in the background.

Likewise I run it 24/7 as well. What happens here is that it simply takes up the rest of the idle CPU cycles when you are using the computer. If it takes 30% to do what you need to it will grab the other 70%. If you really need to there is a slide meter than you can change the percentage of overall idle CPU cycles it grabs. Perhaps if you slide it down a notch to like 90 or 80% and go from there.

Oh and Jeff be sure to change the machine ID numbers within each copy of the client running.

Marchine ID 1 - Computer 1
Marchine ID 2 - Computer 2
Marchine ID 3 - Computer 3

Sounds like Jake (Spike) is the only person having problems with it. I also have it running and I can even play games like Counter Strike, Age of Empires III without any noticeable lag. Everything runs fine. Maybe Jake's got a different issue

On a side note 3063/20,000 Frames done =/. Going to take another 17 days at my rate of 1,000 frames a day.

Site says it's got 100 frames, app says there's 20,000...as long as I get my credit and my rate of 10-25 seconds per frame keeps up I'm good to go.

I'm having the same problem as Spike. It makes me lag alot. So i guess i have to start it manually when i'm not busy on computer?

I told my psychiatrist that everyone hates me. He said I was being ridiculous - everyone hasn't met me yet.

I don't see any configuration option to set the Machine ID.

Er maybe this only applies to computers with dual core processors.

Quote:
Does Folding@home run on dual processor machines? Yes, you can. Additional processors must run the console version (with the "-local" command-line argument if run on Windows). First, make additional directories for each processor and copy the FAH Console executable file into each. Then configure them with the -config switch, filling in settings for each. It is very important to make sure that under the "Advanced Settings" option each copy is given a unique machine ID (from 1 to 8). The first copy will default to a machine ID of 1, so additional copies should be given IDs of 2, 3, 4, etc. Each may then be run out of their installed directory, using the -local switch on windows.
EDIT: If I had 3 computers to run Folding@Home myself I would be all over your top score like a hobo on a ham sandwich Jeff! BTW how can we get more people to join the team?
