We do have an IRC chat here, click under the "Community" tab to check it out.
When you say "shot" box do you mean "shout" box? We do not have one of those...but we may possibly create an IMing system on the forums in the future. You could also leave a person a message on their profile page, in the "Visitor Messages" box, if you'd like. So, in a sense, it is like a mini shout box, if you will.

MrOats, I get an "unable to connect" message when I try to access the BBB chat room. Maybe it's down?

As of Thursday, Nov. 12th, 2009, at 11:22 EST, I was also unable to connect.
I will contact the admin of the site about the issue.

Update: the IRC chat is inactive and no longer accessible.
In the future, BBB may have another option available for user chat.
