Trillian Pro 2.0 and MSN file transfers..

I can't receive files through MSN anymore. It worked in the first beta, but didn't work in RC1/2 or the final.

What happens is, I receive the file, and then when the progress bar finishes, it still says "receiving", and "time left 0.00", it never says "file transfer completed successfully". I can SEND files, but can't receive. The file has 0 bytes, at this point, on the hard disk.

Closing Trillian or disconnecting from MSN causes an invalid page fault, and the received file still has 0 bytes.

Yet I've seen that others have no problem?

I even tried a completely clean install (copying over the buddies.xml), and that does not fix the problem either. So it's not the installation or configuration.

Any ideas ?

Any Ideas? Just this, its possible the beta left someting behind that is not compatible with RC1/2 or final. To fix this uninstall your current build, then install the beta and after rebooting uninstall the beta... this should remove the offending file dll whatever. If you are familiar with the registry then a search for trillian related entries may also show some entries that could be removed.
Finally install Trillian Pro 2.

Hi,
I tried uninstalling the 2.0, then I completely deleted everything (meaning, the entire folder, except buddies.xml, which I copied elsewhere), and then reinstalled 2.0 from scratch. Same problem. So it's not ane installation problem. All of my settings were reverted to default (my buddy alerts were removed, I had to setup each account again, etc). So it HAS To be something with the program.

I don't feel comfortable with going through the registry, but I'm 95% sure that that won't help, anyway. It's rather clearly a software problem.

OK, your call, I for one cant see your reasoning. The fact that nobody else has this problem should be sending a message loud n clear that YOUR setup is different.
How I would tackle it was posted.
How you follow advise is your choice, it clearly is a problem unique to your setup.

Actaully, some people had this problem in the beta version; it was posted on their beta forums.

Since a clean uninstall + reinstall didn't fix the issue, I'll do a reg search/clean and remove all trillian instances, and then reinstall.

If it works, then it was a registry issue, as you suggested.
but if it doesn't, then something is wrong.

I've never had a problem like this before.
But something was changed from the 2.0 beta, to RC2 / final, to make this happen.

*edit* I just checked the official forums.
Other people are having this exact same problem, so it *IS* a bug of some sort.

http://www.trillian.cc/forums/showth...threadid=45184

still trying the clean install.
*edit again*

Clean install, clean registry wipe.
Problem still exists.

My friend sent me a 19 byte text file.
On his computer, it says I never received anything.

On mine it says "file : 19 bytes, received 19 bytes, progress: 100%, "file transfer active". But the file doesn't exist (well the file name does but it's 0 bytes), and trillian's CPU usage jumped up to 100% (usually it's around 5% or so). Eventualy, my friend's MSN reported "transfer failed", mine is still stuck at 100%.

If I try to close trillian with the transfer window still active, I get an invalid page fault in msn.dll

So this is definitely a bug in the program.

Yep, falkentyne is 100% right, plus, trillians sucks all CPU time when trying to transfer files...
BTW, there's already a patch for the Yahoo crashing problem!
bye!

If you're not using a hacked copy of Trillian, why don't you ask this question on their forums?

If it's too buggy for you to pay for then surely it must be too buggy for you to use? Anyway this isn't going to turn on to a debate on the morality of warez.

This is a bug and it has been reported officially to CS. There's nothing else to do about it until it's fixed (unless someone emails me with a workaround) so I'm locking the thread.
