AIM connection problems

I use trillian almost exclusively to connect to AIM. About four days ago, my connection just stopped. I couldn't connect to AIM through trillian OR the aol instant messenger. After two computer reformats and the installation of Norton 2005 Internet Security, I still cannot connect to trillian and only through AIM when I use the HTTP proxy setting. I don't know anything about proxies as I've never had to use any before. Yahoo instant messenger has been and still is working fine with no proxy settings.

I've tried turning firewalls off, and allowing Trillian to connect. I've tried to change ports and flipped proxy on and off. Neither Dell nor my DSL service provider has ever heard of this problem, nor have they been able to help me with this problem, or connecting to specific websites which has also been a problem.

I don't understand why if I am connected to AIM instant messenger, I can't get through to Trillian for this. I've read several threads and sheepishly tried to change to 443 port ect, but honestly I'm unsure what I'm doing when messing with those settings. Any advice? Or am I on the sol boat? Thanks in advance.

edit: I dl'd the old version of Trillian and I have no problems. I'm so relieved! Thanks for helping me out, this forum is amazing.

Send a message via ICQ to LLXerxes Send a message via AIM to LLXerxes Send a message via MSN to LLXerxes Send a message via Yahoo to LLXerxes
Can you connect to ICQ?
Are you, by any chance, under the Age of 13. If you are, you are not legally alloud to have AIM or ICQ and your account can be "canceled" if they find out. Not sure what that means but that might be your problem
Other than that I'm confuzzled

My mind has wings.

No, I'm sure not under 13. I'm in my 20's. This is a pretty frustrating problem when no one seems to understand what's going on. There's obviously something suddenly blocking servers on my computer and I was hoping someone would understand or help guide me in the right direction as I use AIM frequently for work. Thanks anyway for your help though.

Which Trillian version are you using?

Oh and another thing, click on "Show Status Window" and post what message it says when you cannot connect.

I'm using the newest Trillian (free version) 3.x? And the error message is as follows:

*** Error while connecting (Error Code: 0). Disconnecting.

I can connect to regular AIM via aol instant messenger and I set the same settings as I can connect to that, to trillian as far as port #'s ect. Last week, by the way, my trillian and aol instant messenger were fine. I didn't have to specify HTTP or ports or anything. It used default settings and connected perfectly for almost a year. I have the same DSL and this problem occured before I installed Norton 2005 from Norton 2003. I'm trying to think of any other info I can give you.

I can't connect to specific sites either, and my DSL provider has had me ping to check. Sites that I've discovered that don't come up include Google, AIM, and MSN (they timed out). Other sites I frequent are fine such as Yahoo, Ebay, my personal bank, Verizon, Dell ect.

Any of this sound familiar? I hope?

Wow that sounds like a lot of problems. All I can think of would be the settings you have for your firewall although you've already stated you fixed that but perhaps there is something you missed or some other option in Norton. Besides that I can only recommend you to do a spyware/adware scan and see if anything comes up. I wish I could help more but that's all I can think of.

Thank you so much for replying. I don't exactly know what the problem was, but I downloaded the old version of trillian and it connected instantly. I've got no clue what happened or why but I'm kissing the trillian ground and back to blissful instant messaging.

I didn't change settings or anything. I do wonder, however, if it was my DSL messing with something because Google.com comes up for me now too. They insisted it was my computer but after 2 reformats and other sites coming up, I'm not so sure anymore. Sadly, I don't know enough about computers or anything to really understand much more than that. But I can sure reformat a computer now.

Thanks again, I appreciate it so very much that you took time out to help me!
