    Trillian, AIM and Yahoo

    All,

I did some searching for an answer but did not have any luck. Anyway, I have installed Trillian and I am unable to get it to connect to either my AIM or Yahoo accounts. I do have the proxy server configured properly.

Additionally, I tried both the clients for AIM and Yahoo but only the Yahoo client connects.

Anyone have any thoughts on this issue? Is there any way I can verify if the firewall is blocking AIM and not Yahoo? I have successfully run Pings and Trace Routes on both of the standard hosts for Yahoo and AIM. And why does the Yahoo Messenger client work but not Trillian?

Unsure of the firewall. It is an enterprise wide firewall.

well that's a problem because you need to know if this firewall is blocking any port used by AIM

Are you running Windows XP SP2? It has a built in Firewall, drop me a message via AIM and I can sort you out.

Do the regular AIM and Yahoo! messengers connect normally, by the way?

    Hello,

For a couple of day I have been having problems connecting to Trillian. I installed Trillian about a month ago and everything worked fine but now I think my firewall at work is blocking the connection to AIM and MSN. I can not even get to the ceruleanstudios website to see if there is an update available or advice on how to connect through a firewall. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have tried deleting my accounts and adding them again but still no connections. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First of all if you are using Trillian basic you can get it at wwww.download.com just search for it,second your firewall is probably blocking some ports use by trillian to connect. Here are the default ports that Trillian uses:

    MSN
    Connection: 1863
    File Transfer: 6891

    ICQ
    Connection: 5190
    File Transfer: Dynamic unless specified

    AIM
    Connection: 5190
    File Transfer: 5190

    Yahoo
    Connection: 5050
    File Transfer: 80

    More help HERE
Should help you deteriming if the XP firewall is active and if so how to turn it off or forward ports -- your choice.Good Luck!

    Trillian, AIM, and Yahoo

Thanks Kudo. I checked my firewall settings and my XP firewall is turned off. I added Trillian to the exception list but this did not solve the problem. I believe we have another firewall (besides XP) installed. Any way to get around that? or am I just stuck
