Trillian rename doesn't stick

If I rename a Buddy in Trillian, it sometimes doesn't save the new name. The next time I log in, it's back to the default name. Any ideas? Thank you very much.

Does this happen to everyone you rename? Or only sometimes to a specific someone on your list?

Also, which IM service is this affecting? (MSN, Yahoo, AIM etc.)

Are you exitting Trillian cleanly, or is it crashing or being killed by the task manager? Trillian saves contact informaion _only_ on exit, so you must exit cleanly (i.e. by the menu) in order to save the data properly.

same error occured with my trillian. whenever i restart my trillian, all nicks and UI settings are set back to default. any preferences and also the color scheme have been saved but the renamed nicks. please help. i'm using the latest trillian 4.0 alpha release...
@David: i exit trillian via the menu. no indication of forced process killing.

I had the same problem. Trillian won't save your settings if any error is detected when it closes. Even if Trillian doesn't report an error, it could still be closing improperly.
If you want to rename buddies manually, you can edit the Buddies.xml file located at

C:\Program Files\Trillian\users\default\
