Gizmo Project 2.0* Out for Windows and Mac
SIPphone has just release a major update to their Gizmo Project VoIP program. Gizmo Project 2.0* (yes, the asterisk is part of the new name) positions Gizmo as a viable tool for businesses or organizations looking for a cost effective way to manage their phone system. The asterisk doesn't imply some service disclaimer, but notes one of the major new features of Gizmo Project -- support for the open-source Asterisk PBX software. Most PBX systems cost thousands of dollars, but Asterisk provides a full-featured system that can run on Linux of Mac OSX, giving you call-routing, 3-way calling, music-on-hold, transfer and call-routing, voice mail, and IVR (voice routing; the interactive menus you get when you call most customer service lines), and much more. Gizmo Project 2.0* now provides a neat interface that can be used standalone or configured to tap into your organization's Asterisk system. Why is this interesting? Today, many organizations and many workers are virtual. They live in work in far-flug locations all over the globe. Those locations may even change from week to week. Combining Gizmo Project and Asterisk, you could build a virtual network for customer service, with people answering calls from anywhere in the world, all transparent to the caller. Of course, this is already routinely done, but usually with expensive software and systems. Now it can be done with readily available and free tools. Gizmo Project is a strong competitor for Skype. Skype may have the market share, but Gizmo Project beats them hands down with built-in recording capability. Past Gizmo Project references Last edited by Jeff; 05-24-2006 at 01:42 PM. |
