The VoIP Graveyard

Even as the Voice-over-IP (VoIP) market continues to heat up, more and more VoIP providers are failing. myVoipProvider.com has published a list they call the VoIP Graveyard. So far, over 85 companies have joined the list, and several are hanging on the edge.

Personally, I use AT&T's Callvantage VoIP service for my regular phone service. It's not the cheapest service, but AT&T is probably not going to disappear anytime soon. From my PC I have tried a variety of services -- including the stuff built into Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo Messenger -- but my favorite is still Skype. The Skype-out rates are reasonable, and the service and voice quality has worked excellent for me.

If you've got broadband Internet access at home and are considering making the jump to VoIP for your phone service, you might want to check out the VoIP Graveyard first to be safe.

Of course, now days, I use my mobile phone more than my landline anyway, so even if my landline service provider goes bankrupt, I'm not really inconvenienced. More and more people are going without the traditional landlines altogether.
