Video problem with eyeball chat and others

Hello folks

Please help me with the following problem. I know there are some other help items on this site, but i thought that by giving people some hints about my problem there could be a non commercial solution. Thanks in advance.

I have an XP system running. Computer is connected directly to a linksys wireless router which in turn is connected to the DSL (rogers) line. I recently installed adaptec 4300 firewire card and the 1394 firewire itself. connected them to my sony trv510 video camera firewire connector. Camera and MSN editing sofware works fine. however, there is no video on eyeball chat or anyother video chat program. I downloaded directX 9 and rebooted, and the video on eyeball chat worked. Then a few hours later it did not work - after a reboot. I then installed directX 9 once again, and the system worked, and then later the next day it did not. It appears that something is pushing off the recognition of the camera by the eyeball software and other chat programs like msn and yahoo. I tried to uninstall the 1394 firewire device drivers and tried to get the machine to recognize the camera and the firewire, and it did, but still no joy with eyeball chat video box. The audio works fine.

Please help

Did you really have to post this same thing three times?!?

Unless you don't want to spend any money or really have to use your video camera as a webcam, I suggest taking the easy way and getting a real webcam and using that. If you get a well-known brand webcam (such as Logitech) and a recent model webcam, you can be almost sure you won't run into any problems.

Perhaps the following topic (specifically the software in Jeff's first reply) might be of use: http://www.bigblueball.com/forums/to...?TOPIC_ID=5898
