Unofficial Beta Build of MSN Messenger 7 Released

On October 2nd, we brought you the information that the unofficial beta build of MSN Messenger 7 was released, only days after initial word of 7.0 being available to only selected testers world wide. (If you still haven’t grabbed a copy, get one NOW!)

On October 6, 2004 Microsoft released a CVR to block access to those using the new beta build. Fortunately, someone from the mess.be forums created a patch that dumps 11 random characters over the MSNMSGRBETA string sent on the Notification Socket, which tricks it into thinking it’s some random other client. You can get a copy of the patch here.
Now other than connectivity, here are some other useful
things to know about 7.0.

• Messenger Plus! is not compatible with this build. Patchou hopes to have a working version by the end of October.
• Winks are dangerous to keep available for use. They are exploitable for a hacker to use any flash. Read this article to keep yourself protected.
• Hate the tabs? Read this post on information on how to remove them. Or simply download this patch to simply enable/disable them.
• Many, many people hate the advertisement banner, including me. That is why Daniel created this patch to remove it. It also removes the search bar and actions plane.
• Now that you’ve downloaded 7.0, you may notice that your customs (display pictures, backgrounds) are no longer there. Never fear! Follow these instructions to get ’em back!
• Miss the good ’ol polygamy patch? Pfft! No problem! Grab the patch now!
• Ahh, and while your at it get the games.mess.be patch as well.
• Discuss your opinion on the forums.

So, after all that, and if you’re STILL not convinced that MSN Messenger 7.0 is for you (or at least for right now), go back to MSN Messenger 6.2 until she becomes final.
