November 2, 2004 Patchou has made an exception to his normal "no public beta" policy and released a public beta of Messenger Plus 3.40. Don’t expect new functionality just yet, but it is compatible with the MSN Messenger 7 beta.I downloaded and installed the beta and here are my initial impressions. The installation went smoothly. I like that Patchou has made the C2 sponsorship choice much more obvious. If you chose not to install the sponsor software, consider supporting Patchou’s work in some other way, by displaying a Plus! banner on your website or purchasing Plus! gear. One of the warnings during installation reads: "The version of Messenger Plus! you’re about to install is a beta version. This version is not a finished product, some features are missing and many bugs remain. If you do not plan to use MSN Messenger 7.0 before the end of the year 2004, you are encouraged to cancel the installation of this program now and the latest release, for free, at http://www.msgplus.net." Pretty typical CYA lingo, but if you’re really not running the MSN Messenger 7.0 beta, you don’t gain anything by running this add-on beta. Once installed, it blends neatly into the MSN interface, with added functionality tucked into a Plus! menu on the contact list and a Plus! icon in chat windows. There are a few new features, but this is still an early beta, so expect bugs and gaps in functionality. For the latest information, read the information on the download link below.
